She handed a long green strip of paper to my grandmother and already my sisters and I were jockeying to be the one who got to paste the stamps into the book. As children, we loved to browse the catalog. We focused on toys and sporting equipment while my grandmother marked items in the house-wear section like a new ironing board or a pressure cooker. All of us dreamed of the day we will fill the requisite number of books and trade the green stamps for something we wanted.
